Hope Never Dies, Lost Angel. Chapters 38 ---> 55 ! The End ;)

  • First of all, I would like to apologize for the delay, but blogger.com just worked with me. Anyway,  here is what I read and understood from this story:
  • Anyone reading the novel would realize that since the beginning of this book, the story has evolved mainly around Ellen.
  • She has grown to the age where she starts having feelings for boys and so she starts liking Billy as we mentioned in our previous post. Billy, who unfortunately took advantage of Ellen's feelings and got her pregnant.
  •  He wasn't able to marry her because he had already got Sheila pregnant and married her. So Percy, being his own natural, loving self offered to marry Ellen, who he had feelings for, because he felt "guilty" for what his brother had done.
  •  His parents were against it but he still married her under one condition: Billy should never find out that this child was his. He also calls the baby Ellen delivers, Sarah, "their baby".
  • They move into a new cottage as one small family and get to know Valerie, who was their neighbor there.
  •  At first, Ellen suffers to interact with Percy because she felt like she still didn't love him and because she was probably messed up on the inside from what already happened with Billy, but she discusses this with her mom and she gets through it. She starts loving Percy by time.
  • Throughout the previous events, Gertie has helped Ellen and Hilda through a lot and so Ellen felt the obligation to go warn Gertie when she heard that she might be kicked out of town because she likes Mauureen, so she headed out with Sarah.
  • She was hit by a truck which caused her to lose the most precious thing she had at that time, Sarah. It was the most devastating event.
  •  Ellen had stopped seeing her friend, Valerie for a while because Valerie has always told Ellen that Sarah wouldn't get into school. Percy helped her get through it and got her pregnant after a while. She was really happy.
  • Although Ellen was really devastated about Sarah's death, she got over it by time but she was concerned about one thing: whether there was an after life or not.
  •  Ellen acknowledged that there is an after-life after deciding to pay Valerie a visit and get over what has happened and what was told before.
  •  She finds out when Pauline, Valerie's daughter asks her mom to get her and "erra" , which Ellen interpreted as Sarah, some tea.
  • Ellen sees a butterfly and decides that it is Sarah and that there is an after-life where Sarah is going to re-live a happy life.

Chapters 21-30 Hope Never dies.

This story is really very weird. Interesting weird!!
Anyways, there are many turning points in these 10 chapter, I'll just give the main points or the main turning points!

  • It all starts out with depression. Hilda & Ellen were so devastated about the death of Doug ( who turned out to be alive)
  • An old lady gives Ellen some hope but Hilda doesn't feel a thing for the vision. By time, Ellen starts to really believe in future-tellers/vision-tellers and stuff and goes to see a woman who can see through stones and figure out the future.
  • Another major turning point that happened is the fact that Gertie comes for a visit and then finds them a place to stay in Hampshire ( a police officer's cottage; he gave it to them rent-free which helped Hilda)
  • As Ellen and Hilda moved, Mabel left too and took Billy along with her (Billy is her son, who now developed into a more decent boy) and by time Ellen crushed on him while he didn't notice her :P hahah how pathetic :P
  • Mabel's husband got wounded and so she rushed back to London (Ellen was devastated about Billy's departure, but he only felt reluctant to the thought of leaving to London)
  • Hilda didn't want to go back to London because she though it was "bad luck", but what the hell?!! If that's her fate, then it is.
  • Many events went on when they were back in London: - Doug and Hilda fought about her getting a job. - Mabel was so confused about sending her son, Billy, back to Hampshire. (since he kept on nagging!) * Ellen didn't want him to leave. - Billy leaves and Ellen is devastated. - Percy, Billy brother, finds out he has feelings for Ellen. One confusing, messed up triangle love :P hahaha
  • Gertie comes back at the end and has a purpose of helping them get through their messed up lives.

* Im confused about what's gonna happen in Ellen's love life :P hahah

*** This novel is an interesting one! Hope you enjoy this!!

Assignment 2, chapters 4 to 10

In this assignment, I am presenting three various parts. First of all, the summary, then, analyzation and prediction , and at last some questions.

1) Summary:
By time, Hilda started to view her surrounding from a different perspective. She clearly saw gow Ellen changed and matured. She, also, is now thankful that they live in Batterssea, where it's much safer, but Hilda herself struggled from the isolation and inability to communicate with others. It was hard for Hilda to get Gertie to get her to the village, but it got to the point where Hilda was really worried about her husband, Doug. She haven't hear from him since a while and she was afraid he might me hurt or his ship might have drowned. She went to the village and surprisingly found Doug coming for a visit.
After Doug's arrival for a 2 week visit, Hilda seemed to be happy again. Time flew by like it was just a day or even less. Upon Doug's stay, he points out to Hilda how Gertie likes her ( as in more than a friend). When Doug left, as anyone might have noticed, Gertie took advantage of Hilda's grief over her husband's departure. She used it as an excuse to get close to Hilda. Here, Hilda started to consider moving back to London.
As winter was closing up and spring was coming along, Doug finally reappeared after two years of his last departure. It was obvious that Gertie couldn't hide how she felt this time, her jealousy from Doug was more than obvious to him. Doug started getting bothered and probably flet insecure keeping his wife there. Again the 3 weeks felt like 3 days, and now Doug had to leave. His departure was probably the happiest time for Gertie. Hilda, now, had the idea of going back to London more clear in her head.

***I only mentioned some minor details because they might be important in the coming chapters

2) Some analyzation and prediction:
I believe that Hilda is going to move away very soon because she is starting to get annoyed from every act of Gertie's and she is not going to be able to stand her anymore. Ellen is probably going to be the reason Hilda stays the most in Bettersea and puts up with Gertie. Gertie has a complex rush of hormones she can't control toward Hilda. Doug obviously can't wait till the war is over so he can live with his wife and daughter again and he obviously notices the way Gertie feels toward Hilda and is very insecure towards her way of thinking. He still believes that Hilda and Ellen are safer in Better sea. I can see something sad and depressing coming on the way.

3) Questions:
The novel is clear and one might not find that much of questions but I have a couple which I believe are hard to answer or predict:
*As time pass by, wouldn't Ellen have something wrong with her if she keeps on learning alone and playing all by herself?
* Isn't  it obvious that Gertie has feelings for Hilda? How come Hilda doesn't notice or believe her husband?

- Now that's it for this time, thank you for reading it :)
and I hope you liked it Mrs. Shabana! <3

Ohh and by the way, Rama in Grade 12 wants you to know that she misses you so much and that she wants you and needs you :'( <3

Hope Never Dies, Lost Angel. Assignment 1

The novel opens up with sirens, bombs, and war all over Battersea, South London in September 1940. Chapter 1 introduces the main characters, Hilda and her nine-year-old daughter Ellen. They were living in chaos, hiding from the bombs and trying to get away from bombs until one day Hilda's parents died and her house got destroyed so her friend took her in. Her friend, Mabel, lived in an untouched and unbombed area. She was  staying with Mabel until she was gonna find another place. She felt lonely and devastated now that her parents are gone.

Chapter 2 shows that Hilda sent a letter to a friend who lived in Somerset saying that she wanted to send her daughter to stay with her due to the spontaneous bombs, which are causing Ellen's devastation and dreadful state. The housing officer got Hilda to think about moving too. Mabel was against it
at first but then understood when she learned that Ellen's school was closing up and after she heard little Ellen asking her mother not to leave her. Hilda was sure that her friend in Somerset, Gertie would take them in. Hilda was positive that after the war she was going to come back home, to London.

In chapter 3, Hilda and Ellen moved in a train to Somerset where they had Gertie, a tall,big-boned woman, waiting for them. They rode in Gertie's cart which was driven by a horse, called Ned. On the way to Gertie's place, Hilda learns that Gertie lives in a middle of nowhere and that she is lonely and bitter. Hilda asks her about her ex-girlfriend and Gertie feels a bit of hatred towards people because after she have done so much for Susan, all she was kept behind, all alone in a secluded place to stay. After a long, long drive from the village, they finally got to a small cottage. Ellen gets to know the animals around the cottage and she loves them. Gertie showed Hilda her room. Hilda sees her daughter's delight and feels safe at last.
