In this assignment, I am presenting three various parts. First of all, the summary, then, analyzation and prediction , and at last some questions.
1) Summary:
By time, Hilda started to view her surrounding from a different perspective. She clearly saw gow Ellen changed and matured. She, also, is now thankful that they live in Batterssea, where it's much safer, but Hilda herself struggled from the isolation and inability to communicate with others. It was hard for Hilda to get Gertie to get her to the village, but it got to the point where Hilda was really worried about her husband, Doug. She haven't hear from him since a while and she was afraid he might me hurt or his ship might have drowned. She went to the village and surprisingly found Doug coming for a visit.
After Doug's arrival for a 2 week visit, Hilda seemed to be happy again. Time flew by like it was just a day or even less. Upon Doug's stay, he points out to Hilda how Gertie likes her ( as in more than a friend). When Doug left, as anyone might have noticed, Gertie took advantage of Hilda's grief over her husband's departure. She used it as an excuse to get close to Hilda. Here, Hilda started to consider moving back to London.
As winter was closing up and spring was coming along, Doug finally reappeared after two years of his last departure. It was obvious that Gertie couldn't hide how she felt this time, her jealousy from Doug was more than obvious to him. Doug started getting bothered and probably flet insecure keeping his wife there. Again the 3 weeks felt like 3 days, and now Doug had to leave. His departure was probably the happiest time for Gertie. Hilda, now, had the idea of going back to London more clear in her head.
***I only mentioned some minor details because they might be important in the coming chapters
2) Some analyzation and prediction:
I believe that Hilda is going to move away very soon because she is starting to get annoyed from every act of Gertie's and she is not going to be able to stand her anymore. Ellen is probably going to be the reason Hilda stays the most in Bettersea and puts up with Gertie. Gertie has a complex rush of hormones she can't control toward Hilda. Doug obviously can't wait till the war is over so he can live with his wife and daughter again and he obviously notices the way Gertie feels toward Hilda and is very insecure towards her way of thinking. He still believes that Hilda and Ellen are safer in Better sea. I can see something sad and depressing coming on the way.
3) Questions:
The novel is clear and one might not find that much of questions but I have a couple which I believe are hard to answer or predict:
*As time pass by, wouldn't Ellen have something wrong with her if she keeps on learning alone and playing all by herself?
* Isn't it obvious that Gertie has feelings for Hilda? How come Hilda doesn't notice or believe her husband?
